Himachal CM Virbhadra Singh stresses on importance of Hindi

SHIMLA: Stressing on the need to understand the importance of teaching and learning Hindi, Himachal Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said that the language has given us identity of being called a 'Hindustani'.

Presiding over the state level Rajbhasha Day at historic Gaiety Theatre here, he said that Himachal is a Hindi speaking region and it is also the official language of the state.

The government had notified in 1976 that all official work would be conducted in Hindi, he said.

Since Hindi is also our national language, we must make maximum use of it, the Chief Minister said.

He said that the department of Language, Art and Culture was playing a pivotal role in encouraging youth of the state and others to work in Hindi.

The department is also engaged in organising workshops, symposiums, seminars, etc in educational institutions of the state for promoting Hindi.

Lauding the role of the department in promoting Hindi language and literature by conducting competitions right from the secretariat level to the schools, colleges and government offices, he said it would go a long way in promoting Hindi.

The Chief Minister also distributed Hindi Rajbhasha Prizes on the occasion.

Earlier, Secretary, Department of Art, Language and Culture, Anuradha Thakur detailed the importance of Hindi Divas and other activities of the department besides initiatives taken to promote Hindi.
