Highest category Z-plus security cover to Kiren Rijiju

NEW DELHI: The Centre has sounded a specific alert regarding a threat to the life of Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju from north-eastern insurgent groups such as NSCN (K) following the Indian Army’s operation in Myanmar on June 9. The CISF has been asked to plug any loopholes in Rijiju’s Z-plus security cover.

Central intelligence agencies have warned that factors like intensification of offensive against the insurgents, Rijiju’s “vocal statements” against the north-east insurgency and his position as MoS (Home) have raised the threat to Rijiju from a host of such insurgent groups.

The home ministry has been told that a recent assessment points to a specific threat to Rijiju from the NSCN (K), which is widely believed to be behind the June 4 attack on an army convoy, and the newly-formed United National Liberation Front of West South East Asia (UNLFW).

The UNLFW comprises NSCN (K), ULFA (I), KLO and the anti-talk faction of NDFB.
