High-tension line in middle of road poses grave threat to Byatarayanapura residents
BENGALURU: Garbage, drinking water, open drains and bad roads are common problems in most areas of the city and Byatarayanapura ward (No 7) is no exception. This ward in Bengaluru north, however, has a unique and shocking problem.
A high-tension electricity line runs through the middle of the main road in through the middle of the main road in Amruthanagar and continues towards the adjacent Bhuvaneshwari Nagar. During wet weather and heavy winds, walking or driving under this high-tension line could be death-defying as some people have found out.

Car drivers and two-wheeler riders have complained of electric shocks while driving on this stretch. A resident who was watering his roof received a jolt and another who was drying clothes was thrown off by a powerful current.

In addition, many roads have been dug up by private contractors for water connection to apartments in Amruthahalli.People riding back home have no alternative roads to reach their homes. They are forced to park far away and walk.

S Shanmukhappa, a teacher, said contractors were digging deep because of the area's undulating terrain and that there was no coordination between the BWSSB, BBMP and Bescom and that all agencies were digging up roads. A railway bridge under construction has split Jakkur in two. While the building of the bridge stopped, the road is still blocked, forcing residents to take the long way home.
