High Court to hear plea challenging Lokpal committee on May 19
Lucknow bench of the Allahabad HC fixed May 19 as the next date of hearing a plea challenging a committee on the Lokpal Bill.
A division bench of Justices Pradeep Kant and Vedpal directed Attorney General G E Vahanvati, appearing for the Centre, to file a better counter-affidavit on the next hearing.
The court had issued notice to the Attorney General on April 20 to file the Union government's reply on the issue within three weeks.
The petitioner, local lawyer Ashok Pandey, submitted that under the existing Constitutional provisions the Centre cannot issue resolution or notification to constitute a committee on Lokpal Bill.
