High Court seeks Nupur's counter to CBI's reply to her bail plea

The Allahabad HC today asked dentist Nupur Talwar, being tried along with her husband Rajesh, to reply to the CBI's response to her bail plea.

ALLAHABAD: The Allahabad High Court today asked dentist Nupur Talwar, being tried along with her husband Rajesh in the twin murder case of their daughter Aarushi and domestic aide Hemraj, to reply to the CBI's response to her bail plea.

A bench of Justice A K Tripathi asked counsel Amit Srivastava for Nupur, who is lodged in Dasna jail near Ghaziabad since April 30, to file his client's counter to the CBI's reply to her bail plea by May 18.

The court fixed May 22 to hear her bail plea next. While Rajesh Talwar is out on bail, Nupur was taken into custody on April 30 by a Ghaziabad court, before which she had surrendered on a direction by the Supreme Court, given to her after her repeated failure to appear before the court to face trial in the twin murder case.

Nupur had moved the high court for bail following dismissal of her bail plea by the Ghaziabad court on May 2.

Aarushi was found murdered at her Noida residence in May 2008. The body of Hemraj was recovered from the terrace a day later.

Following outcry over sloppy investigation by the Uttar Pradesh police, the case had been handed over to the CBI, which had submitted its closure report to the Ghaziabad court last year.

The court, however, rejected the CBI closure report and decided to summon Talwars as accused in the case and put them on trial, saying there was sufficient material against them.
