High Court asks government to promote Tihar's law officer within 2 weeks

Delhi HC ordered the city govt to create within 2 weeks promotional avenues for Tihar Jail's sole Law Officer Sunil Gupta.

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court today ordered the city government to create within two weeks promotional avenues for Tihar Jail's sole Law Officer Sunil Gupta, working in the post without any promotion or even wage hike for the last 15 years.

A bench of Acting Chief Justice A K Sikri and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw asked Delhi government counsel to create promotional avenues for Gupta within two weeks as per its November 16 order.

Rejecting the government's fervent plea to give it three more months to implement its previous order and create a new post for the law officer's promotion by amending the jail recruitment rules, the court asked Gupta to come back to it for launch of contempt of court proceedings against the government if it failed to create avenues for his promotion within two weeks.
