High Court admits civil defamation suit against Buddhadeb

Admitting the suit, Justice I P Mukerji directed Roy's counsels to serve notice to Bhattacharjee.

KOLKATA: The Calcutta High Court today admitted a civil defamation suit filed by Trinamool Congress general secretary Mukul Roy against former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee for his alleged derogatory comments against Mamata Banerjee.

Admitting the suit, Justice I P Mukerji directed Roy's counsels to serve notice to Bhattacharjee.

The matter would come up for hearing after four weeks, the judge said.

Appearing for the petitioner, counsel Rajdeep Majumdar submitted that Bhattacharjee be restrained from making such derogatory comments against the chief minister.

Roy claimed in his petition that Bhattacharjee had made derogatory comments with regard to Banerjee's honesty during a televised interview.
