Here's why Congress is calling PM Modi's fast a farce

Congress leader Randeep Surjewala tweeted Modi and Shah's tentative tour programmes, calling the fast "Upvas Ka Jumla".

Modi leads nationwide BJP fast against Parliament washout
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah are observing a fast today to protest over the opposition's disruption of the just-concluded Budget Session of Parliament.

The Congress has termed the move as 'farcical'.

"A Farcical Fast’ by a ‘Fascist BJP’. PM Modi remorse for ‘Failing India’ can only be through a ‘Penance Upwaas’!" Karnataka Congress said in a tweet.

Congress leader Randeep Surjewala tweeted Modi and Shah's tentative tour programmes, calling the fast "Upvas Ka Jumla". He tweeted a schedule that lists breakfast and lunch on board IAF aircraft in which Modi travelled to Chennai. He also tweeted the tour programme of BJP president Amit Shah that lists his lunch with farmers in Abbigeri Village of Karnataka.

"Lame duck excuse for the #FakeUpvas is non-functioning of Parliament. Stark reality is that, Modi Govt has denigrated the highest temple of Democracy i.e India’s Parliament, obstructing its functioning, first in opposition and more preposterously, when in power," Karnataka Congress tweeted.

The Congress said that the PM should tender an unconditional apology for "dishonouring democracy". "For a party which disrupted 66.88% of the total functioning time of the previous Lok Sabha (2009-14) and wasted 250 functioning hours of Budget Session by engineering disruptions, Modi Govt & BJP should tender an unconditional apology for dishonouring democracy," tweeted Karnataka Congress.

However, the PMO clarified that the tour program being circulated on social media was old and prepared before the announcement of the fast by the prime minister.

"An older version of the tour program of PM’s delegation of 12th April(#DefenceExpo2018) is being circulated on social media. This version was prepared before PM’s fast was announced. The current tour programme has no breakfast or lunch on board," reported ANI quoting a PMO source.
