Tuesday’s Cabinet rejig saw the exit of 5 Ministers of State in the biggest shakeup of the NDA government since it assumed office.

1) MK Kundariya
Loses MoS Agriculture: He succumbed to BJP’s political need to accommodate bigger names from the politically important Patel community: Parshottam Rupala and Mansukh Mandaviya

2) Ram Shankar Katheria
Loses HRD: Emerging Dalit face in UP, is regarded well in RSS. Likely to get a party role ahead of state polls. Krishna Raj’s induction ensures that representation of UP’s Dalits in the government does not suffer.

3) Mansukhbhai D Vasva
Loses MoS Tribal Affairs: He failed to graduate to his ministerial role, and had been critical of Gujarat CM Anandiben Patel. Also, Jaswantsinh Bhabhor is regarded a better representative of tribals.

4) Sanwar Lal Jat
Loses MoS Water Resources: Leadership disappointed with him. He had to make way for Chhotu Ram Chaudhary, an influential figure from the same community.

5) Nihalchand Meghwal
Loses MoS Chemicals and Fertilizers: Failed to meet party’s expectations despite the leadership standing by him when opponents sought his removal citing rape claims.
