BJP MLA Rahul Narvekar on Sunday was announced as the Maharashtra Assembly Speaker with 164 votes against Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena and MVA candidate Rajan Salvi who got 107 votes. Here is all you need to know about him.

Who is Rahul Narvekar?
Narvekar, a 45 year-old, is a BJP MLA from Colaba Assembly constituency in Mumbai. The politician is the son-in-law of NCP leader Ramraje Nimbalkar, who is chairman of the Maharashtra Legislative Council.
The politician was born and brought up in Colaba, Mumbai. He has studied law and was an advocate. Narvekar holds strong political roots as his father was a Municipal Councilor from Colaba while his brother, Makarand Narvekar, is a second-term Municipal Councilor.
Political career
He started his political career as a Shiv Sena party worker. Soon, he became the spokesperson of the youth wing of the party.
However, he left the party after he was denied a ticket for the 2014 Lok Sabha election after being associated with it for 15 years.
Narvekar then joined Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and contested the election from Maval constituency but failed to gather enough votes. Later, in 2019, he switched his party and joined BJP as a MLA from Colaba.
The four-day old Shiv Sena-BJP government will face the floor test on July 4 during the special two-day session of the Legislative Assembly commencing on Sunday.
