While Goan celebrities and activists rallied together to save Goa from being robbed off its beauty, singer Hema Sardesai has "threatened" the Goa government to fast until death if her demand for special status to Goa is not met.

PANAJI: While Goan celebrities and activists rallied together to save Goa from being robbed off its beauty, singer Hema Sardesai has "threatened" the Goa government to fast until death if her demand for special status to Goa is not met.
"I will go on fast until death, if my demands are not passed. I have never spoken untruth in my life and I am determined of the fast, if nothing is done," Sardesai warned during a convention called by NGOs and celebrities on Monday evening to make public aware about mass destruction of this state on the western coast.
Celebrities including internationally renowned pop singer Remo Fernandes and activists like environmentalist advocate Norma Alvares, Rajendra Kerkar, Mathany Saldanha and others participated in this convention titled 'public assembly against construction, conversion and mining.'
Sardesai demanded that special status be accorded to Goa to ensure that the land is not being sold outrightly to the non-Goans . The migrant labourers should be stopped from voting in the state and transit camps should be established to house them so as to avoid the mushrooming of slums in the state, the singer in her brief speech said.
"Dont allow foreign (non-Indian) colonies to be set up here. And construction licences should be granted in the state only after proper infrastructure is ensured," Sardesai said.
