SHILLONG: Tomorrow's gala arrangement for Independence Day celebration in Meghalaya might be affected as there is a possibility of very heavy rainfall in the state.

The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast that heavy to very heavy rainfall would occur at a few isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya from August 14 to 18, an official statement said today.

In view of the warning, Deputy Commissioners and Superintendent of Police in all 11 districts of Meghalaya have been asked to keep vigil.

"We have issued orders to DCs and SPs in all districts to remain alert following the weather forecast in the region for the next 90 hours or so," a senior official of the revenue and disaster management department told PTI.

The warning was issued in view of flash floods and landslides that could take place in case of heavy rainfall and to make people aware of the situation, the official said.
