NEW DELHI: Four persons were killed as heavy showers on Monday lashed many parts of Northern belt, which brought much needed respite to the people reeling under sweltering heat conditions for the past few days.

At least four persons, including a minor girl, were killed and eight injured in various rain-related incidents across Uttarakhand during the past 24 hours due to torrential rains.

Heavy downpour in most parts of the national capital, that lasted for over an hour, brought mercury down to a comfortable level of 36.5 degrees Celsius.

Mercury touched 40-degree mark in Rajasthan even as moderate to heavy rains occurred at some places in the state.

Ganganagar remained the hottest place in the state with a high of 40 degree followed by Churu, Bikaner and Jaisalmer which remained hot at 39, 37 and 35 degrees, respectively.

Waiting for monsoon rains for the past few weeks, Punjab and Haryana today received light rains and maximum temperatures dropped by a few degrees at most of the places.
