Heavy rains in Delhi, Yamuna crosses danger mark

NEW DELHI: Delhi received another spell of heavy rains on Saturday resulting in the water level of river Yamuna breaching the danger mark.

The river crossed the danger level of 204.83 metres last evening and now it is flowing 11 cm above the danger mark. The city government has evacuated some families living in low-lying areas in east Delhi.

The city has been receiving heavy rains for the past three days with Thursday recording the heaviest downpour of the season.

The rain gauges in the capital recorded 17.4 mm of rains during a period between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm. In the period of 24 hours ending 8:30 am today, the city received 24.9 mm of rains, the Met office said.

Heavy showers also resulted in the maximum temperature dropping to 28.4 degree Celsius, which is six degrees below normal. Yesterday, the maximum was 31.7 degree C.

The minimum was recorded at 26.8 degree Celsius as against yesterday's 26 degrees.

The humidity was also on a higher side today with minimum and maximum recorded at 88 and 98 per cent respectively.

The weatherman has predicted similar conditions for tomorrow with a few spells of rain or thundershowers and one or two heavy spells in some areas.
