Heavy firing in Srinagar, 5 policemen injured in encounter with militants

SRINAGAR: Five policemen were injured today in a gunbattle with militants in Soura area of the city, police sources said.

The encounter erupted in Ahmadnagar locality of Soura this evening when police cordoned off the area following information about the presence of militants there, the sources said.

They said the militants hurled a grenade towards the security forces injuring five policemen.

Exchange of fire between the two sides was going on intermittently, sources said, adding, that additional security forces have been rushed to the area.
