MUZAFFARNAGAR: A local court has deferred to September 9 the hearing in a riots case in which two youths were killed in Kawal village after one of the accused sought more time to appoint a new lawyer.

Additional Sessions Judge Jitender Kumar deferred the hearing in the Kawal killing case yesterday.

The accused had stated in his plea that he had lost confidence in his lawyer provided under the legal aid scheme and he needed more time to engage a new lawyer.

The five accused in the case Mujasim, Muzammil, Nadeem, Jahangir and Furkan were produced in the court.

Meanwhile, Revinder Kumar, the complainant in the case was cross-examined by the court.

Two youth identified as Gaurav and Sachin were killed in Kawal village of the district last year. Soon after their death, communal riots spread in the district.
