Bengaluru: Union minister of health Harsh Vardhan has advised Karnataka to make sensible strategies to control Covid-19 in the backdrop of festive season and the onset of winter.

The union minister held a video conference with health and medical education minister K Sudhakar and the department officials to discuss the steps taken to contain Covid and preparations for vaccine distribution.

He expressed satisfaction over the Covid control measures taken in the state and said the fall in infection and mortality rate is a good sign. However, he cautioned the state not to let the guard down and ensure strict measures to control the infection, K Sudhakar said in a press release.

Harshavardhan directed the state to keep a vigil on interstate and international passengers and also identify ILI and SARI cases and make them undergo Covid testing in order to control spread of the infection.

While briefing the Covid scenario, Sudhakar told the Centre that Covid-19 was under control. “Our target is to reduce the mortality rate to below 1%. We will spread awareness among the public in the wake of the festive season. Strict guidelines will be in force,” he said.
