HD Kumaraswamy to take oath as Karnataka chief minister

Kumaraswamy met Karnataka governor Vajubhai Vala and staked claim to form the government after BS Yeddyurappa resigned as chief minister ahead of facing a trust vote.

JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy is set to take oath as the Karnataka chief minister after governor Vajubhai Vala invited him to form the government.

He is likely to take the oath on Monday.

Kumaraswamy met Karnataka governor Vajubhai Vala and staked claim to form the government after BS Yeddyurappa resigned as chief minister ahead of facing a trust vote.


"I will personally invite all regional leaders including Mamata Banerjee, K Chandrashekar Rao and Mayawati. I am going to personally invite Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi for oath taking ceremony," Kumaraswamy said.

The Congress has extended unconditional support to JD(S) taking their combined strength to 116 in the Karnataka Assembly.

Earlier today, BS Yeddyurappa quit as chief minister ahead of the trust vote stating that he does not have the numbers.

The Supreme Court had asked the BJP government to face the trust vote on Saturday cutting short the 15-day window provided by the governor.
