A high court bench here has sought status details of a Rs 120 crore financial package for upgradation of Govt Medical College and Hospital.

NAGPUR: A high court bench here has sought status details of a Rs 120 crore financial package for upgradation of Government Medical College and Hospital.

Justices Dilip Sinha and C L Pangarkar of the Bombay High Court's Nagpur bench yesterday asked Assistant Solicitor General S K Mishra to ascertain the status.

The Centre had allocated Rs 120 crore to upgrade the medical facility on the lines of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.

A PIL filed by social worker Umesh Choube alleged that the money was diverted towards modernisation of J J hospital in Mumbai.

During the course of hearing, the Maharashtra Government said the Union Health Ministry had accorded in principle approval to the proposal for upgradation.

At this juncture, the bench asked Mishra to ascertain the status and make a definitive statement on June 16 when the case comes up for next hearing.
