CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has ordered issue of notice to the Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary and other officials on a petition seeking a direction to them to take action against some officers of Housing and Urban development Department allegedly involved in malpractices as per a Supreme Court order.

Justice B Rajendran, before whom the petition filed by one S Murugan came up yesterday, ordered issue of notice to the Chief Secretary and Secretary to the Housing and Urban Development and the Chairman and Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Housing Board.

Murugan, a trade union member of 'TNHB Tholilalar Munnetra Sangam' in his petition said the Supreme Court in its order on the appeals filed by one V Chandrasekharan and others directed the Chief Secretary to examine the issue involved in the matter of illegal encroachments by private builders on Housing Board land by constructing multi-storied apartments allegedly with the connivance of Housing Board officials.

The petitioner said as he had not received any response from authorities to his representation seeking action against the offenders, he had filed the present plea seeking a direction to the Chief Secretary to take action against officers allegedly involved in the malpractices.
