HC notice to Kamat govt in police-peddler nexus case

PANAJI: The Goa bench of the Bombay High Court on Tuesday issued notices to the Digambar Kamat government, CBI and other probe agencies for faulty investigation into the policedrug peddler nexus case in the state.

The court served the notices in connection with a petition filed by the Congress’s student organisation, the NSUI. In its petition filed last year, NSUI had asked that a CBI enquiry be ordered into the policedrug peddler nexus case.

But the state government maintained that an internal probe was on, and seven police officers had been suspended for their possible involvement . However, many feared that police officers will not be able to take action against their own colleagues . State advocate general Subodh Kantak has now sought time to respond to the Court’s notice . The issue of drugs came to fore last year after popular website youtube showed claims by Israeli drug dealer Yaniv Benaim, alias Atala, boasting of his links with the state police officers. After jumping bail, Atala was caught in Peru.

The state police is now seeking his extradition. Earlier, Atala’s girlfriend , Lucky Farmhouse, had told newspersons here that that state Home Minister Ravi Naik’s son, Roy was a frequent visitor at their joint. The home minister has, however, rubbished these claims.

Meanwhile, another drug dealer David Driham, alias Dudu, was also caught on tape claiming to have links with the state police. While Dudu is currently in jail, Sub-Inspector Sunil Guddler was caught on camera allegedly selling drugs to two Israeli girls who are related to Dudu. Guddler is under suspension pending investigation.
