HC gives relief to JP Nadda, Amit Malaviya, exempts them from personal appearance in police case

Karnataka High Court grants interim relief to BJP leaders JP Nadda and Amit Malaviya in connection with FIR by Kalaburagi police during Lok Sabha polls.

BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court on Friday granted interim relief to BJP national president JP Nadda and BJP IT cell chief Amit Malaviya in connection with an FIR the Kalaburagi police had registered related to a post on social media platform alleging appeasement of minorities by the ruling Congress in the southern state during the Lok Sabha polls.

Judge Krishna S Dixit permitted investigations on the FIR, regiered but said the investigating authorities cannot insist on their personal appearance.

The FIR was registered under Section 125 of the Representation of People Act, and the IPC after a post surfaced allegedly showing if the Congress came to power, it would snatch the wealth of the Hindus and distribute it among the minorities. The complainants said the post pitted one community against the other and sought to stoke animosity in the society.


The court passed the interim order on a petition from the two leaders who said they had no role in the alleged offence and they had been implicated because of their positions as party's national president and social media head.
