Delhi HC gives bail to MP Rashid due to father's death
Lok Sabha MP Engineer Rashid has been granted interim bail by the Delhi High Court. This comes after the passing of his father in New Delhi. Rashid will arrive in Srinagar on May 19 to attend the funeral prayers. He has been in Tihar jail since 2019.

The bail was given till June 2. Awami Ittehad Party chief spokesperson Inam un Nabi said Rashid will be arriving in Srinagar on May 19 morning to participate in the Namaz-e-Janaza of his father Mohammad Khazir Sheikh, 85, at their ancestral village of Mawar Payeen of Handwara. His other son Khursheed Ahmad Sheikh is also an MLA from Langate.
Rashid has been in Tihar jail since 2019 when NIA arrested him under UAPA. While in jail he fought and won the Lok Sabha polls. On September 10, 2024, at the time of J&K assembly polls, he was released on interim bail for 22 days, extended till October 28. He was allowed to participate in the Parliament sessions. In April this year, the court granted him bail to meet his ailing father.
