Madras High Court granted five days extension to the deadline set for the process of digitization of television signals in Chennai, which was to expire today.

CHENNAI: Madras High Court granted five days extension to the deadline set for the process of digitization of television signals in Chennai, which was to expire today.

Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar passed the interim injunction valid till November 5 on a petition by cable TV operators.

Chennai Metro Cable TV Operators Association had approached the court seeking extension of the deadline for implementation of Digital Access System (DAS) in Chennai beyond October 31.

The association submitted that there was difficulty in procuring so many lakhs of set-top boxes required for the DAS and hence sought more time to complete the process.

Under the Centre's proposal, the DAS is to be completed in all four metros of Delhi, Kolkatta, Mumbai and Chennai by today.
