“I have not been contacted by any BJP leader and have no information about the meeting. It is only in the media. I have not received any invite to be part of the NDA,” Rajbhar told ET. “There are a number of issues which need to be sorted out before going in alliance with any party.”
Rajbhar led SBSP had contested the 2022 assembly elections in alliance with Samajwadi Party and had won six seats. But post elections, differences grew among the two parties. Later he started meeting BJP leaders and his statements indicated that Rajbhar is once again ready to ally with the BJP. Recently on the occasion of his son’s wedding, all the state BJP leaders including CM Yogi Aditya Nath were present.
SBSP is a party with a support base in Rajbhar community in the Purvanchal region of UP. In 2017, it had contested assembly elections with BJP and had won four seats. Later, OP Rajbhar resigned from the Yogi cabinet and joined hands with the opposition Samajwadi Party.
While talking to ET, Rajbhar didn’t deny the possibility of joining the opposition camp.
“For the opposition to be stronger, Akhilesh, Mayawati, Jayant and Sonia Ji all must come together. If they are ready to come together, I will join the alliance in no time. Together this alliance will have 65 per cent vote share in UP,” he said. “But the condition they all come together burying their personal differences.”
