The Haryana government will set up a board which will advise it on policies for the promotion of hair-grooming and salon by bringing new technologies in the traditional profession of 'Nai' community, according to an official release.

At a meeting of the state cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar here today, it was decided that a Kesh Kala and Kaushal Vikas Board will be set up in Haryana.

The board will suggest steps for overall development of those engaged in the occupation.

In recent times, the art of cutting and grooming hair or beard and nails has undergone a tremendous change due to new scientific techniques being adopted in the grooming industry, it said.

People from other communities have also taken up this profession because of the lucrative returns it offers. This has resulted in the traditional 'Nai' community getting alienated from their profession, said the release.

"With modernisation and technological advancement, this profession has become highly capital intensive. But the 'Nai' community has not been able to upgrade its skills and lacks adoption of latest techniques and scientific machinery," the release said.
