CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government will develop a hi-tech city in the Samalkha-Ganaur area of Panipat and Sonipat districts to develop towns in the National Capital Region.

A spokesman of the town and country development department said here today that letters of expression of interest had been invited from consultants to prepare a detailed strategy and action plan for developing the hi-tech city by 2021.

The state government's vision was to create a town that could provide an ideal environment for cutting edge techologies and research. "It envisages provisions for research in bio-technology, nano-technology and semi- conductors," he said.

On the services side, the hi-tech city would become a "one stop destination" in the region for IT, IT-enabled services and related institutions for venture capital, insurance and transportation.

The town will provide quality physical and social infrastructure needed for this purpose.
