Haryana government suppressing voice of Congress, says Kiran Choudhary

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Kiran Choudhary has strongly condemned the BJP government led by Manohar Lal Khattar for suppressing the voice of Congress party legislators when they were raising their voice against the failure of the state government to tackle the law and order situation in the state during the recent Jat agitation.

All 13 MLAs of Congress who were protesting against the failure of the BJP government to save the lives and property of the people during the recent agitation across the state were today taken into custody by the UT Police, and later given bail.

In a statement issued here, the former Excise and Taxation Minister said, "It is brazen suppression of the voice of people’s representatives and is against all democratic norms BJP swears by. In opposition, it is our right and duty to raise public issues on the floor of the House. But the BJP government does not want us to raise such issues to show that this government has failed to maintain peace, harmony and social cohesion in the state."

She also criticized the BJP for its double-standards on the SYL issue. "The party takes a different stand in Punjab where it shares power with SAD and exactly the opposite in Haryana where it is in power on its own. It reflects the double face of the BJP and exposes its political self-centeredness", Choudhry added.

The way SYL issue is being tackled shows the inability of the BJP government to protect the rights of Haryana. It should have prevailed upon the central government to put pressure on the Punjab government not to do what it has done and passed the bill on returning the SYL land to the original owners. It clearly shows electoral politics of the BJP government just to get votes which is very unfortunate, she added.
