KAITHAL: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Tuesday vowed not to take part in anymore public functions where Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be present after he was booed and jeered by the crowd during the foundation laying ceremony of a highway in Kaithal.

Modi was the chief guest at the function. Hooda, who was shouted down by the crowd while he was reading out his speech, called the incident a conspiracy hatched by the Bharatiya Janata Party. “This is the tactic played by BJP in other states as well. We were following the protocol.

If they have to resort to such cheap tactics, there is no point in attending such rallies. I will never go to another function of the PM again,” Hooda told reporters after the event.

Modi in his speech said, “I know Haryana the way I know Gujarat. This is my first visit to the state after forming the government. I know the people of Haryana have a great sense of humour. I thank you for all your affection. I will return your goodwill with record development.” He was at his diplomatic best as he touched upon crucial poll issues without naming anyone. Modi took digs over issues, including ‘skewed progress’, corruption and problems faced by farmers. Even though the PM’s visit was an official one BJP cadres hoped to gain momentum from it for the forthcoming polls.
