Haryana chopper evacuates 232 people in Uttarakhand

Over 200 people have been evacuated so far by the Haryana government's helicopter engaged in relief and rescue work in Uttarakhand.

NEW DELHI: Over 200 people have been evacuated so far by the Haryana government's helicopter engaged in relief and rescue work in Uttarakhand.

During last six days, the helicopter took more than 60 sorties and evacuated 232 people from Gangotri valley to safer places, besides evacuating four officials, an official statement said.

The rescued people were taken to Dharasu and Uttarkashi after they were rescued from Harsil, Batwari and Minari.

The chopper carried 30 quintals of relief material, including food items and other necessary items.

Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda had left the state government's chopper in Dehradun on June 22 for rescue and relief operations after a meeting with his Uttarakhand counterpart Vijay Bahuguna.
