CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar heckled, gheraoed in Rohtak by non-Jats members of Arora, Dalits, Kamra and Saini communities gheraoed the CM’s vehicle to protest against the ‘failure of the state’ to protect life and property. Though Khattar assured them action against those who indulged in arson, locals booed and waived black flags at the chief minister.

Congress workers and supporters of former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda too shouted, “Haryana Police Murdabad,” holding the state police solely responsible for the violence. Rohtak witnessed largescale destruction of pro-perty in the week-long agitation, with the Punjabi community suffering major losses.

Khattar told the protesters stern measures would be taken against those who set shops and commercial establishments on fire and damaged property. The state government has announced a compensation of `10 lakh to the next of kin of those killed and full compensation to those persons whose property was damaged during the agitation by members of the Jat community demanding reservation in government jobs.

“My government will also give jobs to affected families of those who are poor and economically backward,” Lal said.
