NEW DELHI: Harsh Vardhan Shringla who was on Wednesday appointed next High Commissioner is India's current envoy in Thailand and credited with finalizing contours of Land Boundary Agreement Protocol with Bangladesh as Joint Secretary (JS) in headquarters.

As JS Bangladesh-Sri Lanka-Myanmar and Maldives division in MEA between 2011-13, he also sorted out hitches in power transfer, duty free regime in textiles, overseeing maritime arbitration and general elections in 2014 in Bangladesh.

An IFS of 1984 batch, Shringla played a key role in tricky situations in Maldives including when Nasheed sought refuge in High Commission in Male; Myanmar's new overture after 2010; and some tricky issues in Sri Lanka.

He was JS UN -Political when India was elected to UN Security Council as non permanent member in 2010; JS SAARC during Thimphu Summit and earlier has been Director in MEA looking after Nepal and Bhutan.

In the past he had handled tricky issues including right of response to Musharraf at UN in 2005 during PM Vajpayee's visit. He was India's Consul General in Durban and Ho Chi Minh city and served in Indian mission in Tel Aviv.
