Harsh V Shringla Visits Dhaka, expected to take a trip to Myanmar

While in Dhaka, Shringla met PM Sheikh Hasina with a special message from PM Narendra Modi, in Myanmar, he will engage with top decision-makers ahead of November elections there.

NEW DELHI: India has stepped up engagement in its eastern neighbourhood, with foreign secretary Harsh V Shringla visiting Dhaka on Tuesday and planning to follow it up with a trip to Myanmar.

While in Dhaka, Shringla met PM Sheikh Hasina with a special message from PM Narendra Modi, in Myanmar, he will engage with top decision makers ahead of November elections there.

This was Shringla’s second visit to Bangladesh as foreign secretary. Earlier, he had visited Dhaka in March first week. The foreign secretary also met foreign minister AK Abdul Momen and his counterpart Masud Bin Momen.


Myanmar’s generals upset with Chinese duplicity have launched a pushback against Beijing by limiting the scope of Chinese companies in a number of BRI projects. ET has learnt that the generals have decided to expedite India-financed projects, including Kaladan multi-modal project that allows New Delhi to expand its role in the Bay of Bengal region.
