Harish Rawat recommends CBI probe in railway official's death

Close relatives of the official feel he was innocent and being harassed by his superiors, senior Congress leader Suryakant Dhasmana who took the family to CM.

DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat today recommended a CBI probe into the death of a railway official here and directed police officials to ensure the safety of his family members.

The chief minister made the recommendation after the family members of the deceased railway official met him and demanded that the apex investigating agency probe his death, an official statement said.

Close relatives of the official feel he was innocent and being harassed by his superiors, senior Congress leader Suryakant Dhasmana who took the family to the Chief Minister said.

Sunil Baluni, an account officer with the railways, who had been suspended on charges of corruption, allegedly committed suicide here by jumping on the tracks before a speeding train on December 2.

A suicide note recovered from his pocket said he was taking the extreme step as he could not bear the insult he was being subjected to by his interrogators.

A departmental enquiry was going on against him and he had just returned from New Delhi where he had gone in connection with the probe.
