New Delhi: Congress Parliamentarian Vivek Tankha, who was part of a group of Opposition MPs who visited Sonam Wangchuk in hospital urging him to end his hunger strike, on Friday expressed happiness about the activist finally calling off his fast after talks with the government. Tankha, a friend and lawyer of Wangchuk, also pointed out 19 Opposition MPs, including him, had also written a joint letter to the activist, urging him to end his fast.

"I am happy Wangchuk finally ended his hunger strike. As a friend of his, and as part of a group of Opposition MPs, I was in touch with Wangchuk, urging him to end his fast. On its part, the government was also making its own efforts. I am glad he ended his hunger strike because I want him to live. At the same time the students' agitation will continue even after he ends his fast," Tankha said.
