Gyanvapi case: Court order makes road easier for Hindu extremists, says All India Muslim Personal Law Board

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board has said that the Varanasi district judge's order on maintainability of a suit that sought worship rights for Hindu women inside the Gyanvapi mosque complex has made the road easier for "Hindu extremists."

It will strengthen extremism in the country and cause violence and conflicts, AIMPLB general secretary Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rehmani said, calling the court order "disappointing and saddening". The board urged the government to enforce the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, 1991, 'in the right spirit' to prevent a situation where 'minorities lose faith in the judicial system'.

"Despite the Places of Worship Act, people who want to serve hatred to the world have raised the issue of Gyanvapi in Varanasi, not concerned about the unity of the country and what is regrettable is that the local judge ignored the 1991 law and accepted the plea of Hindu extremists, thus making the road easier for them. The government should enforce the law in the right spirit and make sure all parties are bound by it so that such a situation does not arise that minorities lose faith in the judicial system and find doors of justice closed for them," the statement said.
