KATHMANDU: Nepal's King Gyanendra is preparing to deliver a crucial message to the nation in which he is expected to put forward certain conditions prior to quitting the Naryanahiti Royal Palace, even as political leaders prepare to dethrone him on Wednesday.
The sidelined monarch, whose fate the key May 28 Constituent Assembly will decide, is preparing to put forward his conditions to the government prior to quitting the royal palace in central Kathmandu, the Telegraph Nepal said quoting media reports.
Gyanendra, who has temporarily moved from Narayanhity Royal Palace to Nagarjun Palace, situated some 7-km west of Kathmandu on the outskirts of the capital, is holding serious discussions with his close aides regarding his proposals, mainly focused on security concerns of his family members, the report said.
Gyanendra will return tomorrow to Narayanhit Palace, the report said, adding that he is scheduled to hold a serious but presumably the last discussion with Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala on Tuesday.
How King Gyanendra will convince the Prime Minister as regards his "security concerns" is yet not known. Nevertheless, Gyanendra will address the nation before quitting the royal palace," the report said quoting sources close to the royal palace.
According to royal palace sources, the king in his last message to the nation will advice the new managers of the republican order to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity in the absence of the "institution of the monarchy".
