GUWAHATI: A Guwahati high court bench comprising Justice Manojit Bhuyan and Justice Prasanta Kumar Deka did not accept Dinesh Prajapati claim of being a member of a family based in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh. The bench ordered Prajapati’s release from the detention camp and allowed him to enroll at the Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Tinsukia.

Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia had engaged advocates to fight Dinesh and his wife Tara Prajapati’s case. The couple was declared foreigners by a tribunal in Dibrugarh. Last month, 70-year-old Chotki Devi died of stroke after her son and daughter-inlaw were sent to the detention camp after being declared ‘doubtful’ voters. Saikia welcomed the high court’s order for release of Tinsukia-based Prajapati.

“Tara Prajapati’s case is likely to come up for hearing next month,” he said.
