Guwahati Blast: Scooter used for explosion carried fake number plate

GUWAHATI: Investigation into Tuesday���s powerful bomb explosion in Guwahati has revealed that the motorbike in which an improvised explosive device (IED) was planted had a fake number plate. Police sources claimed that the number plate belonged to someone in Rangia area. Additional superintendent of police, Guwahati, Debojit Deuri told ET, "The number plate is fake. We are trying to locate the number with the help of the transport department."

One person was killed and about 15 injured in the blast. The condition of six is stated to be critical. The main opposition party Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) charged the Congress of falling to maintain law and order in the state.

AGP stated that the Congress has no moral right to seek votes from the people when it has failed to protect their lives.

AGP president Chandra Mohan Patowary said that state government failed to provide security at a time when external affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee was about to address a election meeting in Lalganesh area, which is close to the site of explosion.

Meanwhile, security in the state has been beefed up in view of the Rising Day of Ulfa. The militant outfit observes April 7 as the Rising Day. Altogether eleven candidates have filed their nomination on Wednesday, the fifth day of filing nominations for the second phase of Lok Sabha polls in Assam.
