Gujjar row: Bainsla ready for talks with Raje government
Reacting to Rajasthan government's invitations for talks, the agitating Gujjars said parleys to break the ice on the fortnight-long stir over ST status are possible only if community leaders from across the country are allowed to huddle.
After receiving a letter from Principal Secretary S N Thanvi inviting agitation spearhead Kirori Singh Bainsla for talks with Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje's office, the Gujjar patron said the government should not obstruct the movement of community leaders in reaching here for deliberations.
"We request the government and the administration not to stop our leaders from reaching here," Bainsla told reporters near the railway tracks which are under siege for the past 14 days.
He appealed to all Gujjar leaders to be here by 12 noon on Friday so that they can decide on their next move.
Bainsla said after deliberations with leaders of the community, some representatives may be appointed who would then talk with the government on the current stand-off.
Bainsla did not make it clear whether the representatives would be sent to Jaipur or they would ask the government representatives to arrive at the agitation site for the talks.
"That will be decided soon," Bainsla said. Terming the letter as "simple", Bainsla maintained only the ST status recommendation letter remains his top priority.
