Gujarat witnessing industrial revolution: Speaker

LONDON: Gujarat was currently witnessing an industrial revolution and would help India emerge as a developed nation, Speaker of the state Assembly, Ashok Chandulal Bhatt, said.

Speaking at a reception hosted in his honour by the Overseas Friends of BJP (UK) in Edgware, Bhatt said the state had sanctioned 51 Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and half a dozen of them have already been completed.

The Speaker sought the assistance of NRIs, particularly Gujaratis settled here, in contributing to the drip irrigation schemes introduced by the government. Farmers would get a subsidy of 50 per cent under the scheme and 45 per cent loan and would need the remaining five per cent which the NRIs could contribute, he said.

Turning to the health care sector, Bhatt said the state currently has one of the best heart by-pass hospitals, a kidney institute and knee replacement unit.

Lord Navnit Dholakia, Chairman, Liberal Democrat Friends of India, said Gujarat has developed dramatically over the past 50 years.

Referring to the all-round progress made by NRIs in the UK, Dholakia said in the next 25 years, they would account for majority of civilian jobs and business in Britain.
