Charges against Mevani include 'voluntarily causing hurt'.
Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani continued to remain in police custody for over a week as the session court in Barpeta reserved its order on his second bail application. He was sent to five days' police remand in a second case, after he obtained bail upon spending five days in police custody and prison in a case filed for his two tweets 'against' Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Mevani was arrested late night from Gujarat's Banaskantha district and brought to Assam's Kokrajar following a complaint against the tweets.

Mevani's counsel Angshuman Bora told ET, "we submitted our arguments, but the order has been reserved by the session court. The public prosecutor tried to adjourn the bail hearing, but the court asked him to submit the arguments today itself."

Charges against Mevani in the second case include 'voluntarily causing hurt', 'criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of duty' and 'force on a woman cop intending to outrage her modesty'. Congress workers across Assam organised a dharna demanding release of Mevani, to coincide with Modi's visit to Assam.
