Gujarat elections: GPP to fight on all seats

VADODARA: The Gujarat Parivartan Party ( GPP), floated by BJP rebel Keshubhai Patel, today said it would field its candidates on all the 182 constituencies of Gujarat in the upcoming Assembly polls.

"The parliamentary board of the GPP will meet after October 31 and finalise the candidates after reviewing the situation," Patel, whose yatra reached here tonight, after touring seven districts of central Gujarat, said.

The former Gujarat chief minister clarified that the GPP would not have to go for an alliance or seat-sharing arrangement with any political party, including BJP and Congress.

According to Patel, many party workers, who were tired of BJP and Congress, are now joining his party, which will get its symbol from the election commission on by next Tuesday.

"I am very hopeful of my party getting a majority and forming the government on its own after the assembly polls," he said.

Commenting on the prospects of the BJP, Patel said, "What happened to Mayawati-led BSP in Uttar Pradesh in the bygone assembly polls, will happen to Narendra Modi-led BJP government in Gujarat assembly polls, which will not be seen anywhere after the polls," he added.

Patel claimed that the membership of GPP had gone up to 15 lakh after it came into existence six months ago.

"I am very happy with the overwhelming response the Gujarat parivartan yatra has been getting response, which will conclude on October 31 coinciding with the birth anniversary of late Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the iron man of India," he said.

Assembly polls will be held in Gujarat on December 13 and 17.
