This year, the prime minister is absent from his home state on his birthday.
GANDHINAGAR: As Prime Minister Narendra Modi turns 68, he will celebrate his birthday in his constituency Varanasi on Monday.

This however is a big departure from his established practice of meeting his mother on this occasion and seeking her blessings. While he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi used to meet his mother, who stays with his younger brother Pankaj Modi in Gandhinagar, to seek her blessing on his birthday; a tradition he had continued even after becoming the Prime Minister f India.

While BJP in the state used to celebrate Modi’s birthday across the state with various programmes, it used to be this meeting of mother and son, that used to dominate the public discourse of the day.

However, this year, with the prime minister absent from his home state, the state unit is poised to celebrate his birthday with several welfare programmes. “There will be a series of health camps from September 17 to 25 celebrating Modiji’s birthday across the state,” said Dr. Jagdish Bhavsar, from Gujarat BJP.

Bhavsar has also penned a book detailing 69 achievements of Narendra Modi as the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

Meanwhile major private celebrations are also underway in Surat where a 680 feet long cake weighing 6800 kg will be cut on the occasion of Modi’s birthday. BJP MP Kirit Solanki will also cut a cake in Ahmedabad later in the day as a part of party’s celebration.
