Aam Aadmi Party's Gujarat chief, Gopal Italia, was detained by Delhi Police for three hours in New Delhi over a video in which he was heard using derogatory language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The detention triggered another face-off between BJP and AAP with the latter accusing the ruling party of unnecessarily targeting the Patels in the election-bound Gujarat.

Italia had come to New delhi in response to summons issued by National Commission for Women. He was taken away in a police car within minutes of arriving at the NCW office. "Instead of hearing me out, the NCW chairperson called the police and sent me to the police station. This shows the entire BJP is plotting against the Patel community. They had many of us shot. They are jealous of Patidars. They want to harass me at any cost," said Italia.

The allegations came after NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma accused AAP workers of trying to mob her office.

AAP Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chaddha alleged the arrest of Italia is a blow to Patidars.
