Guest teachers end protest after Arvind Kejriwal's assurance

NEW DELHI: A group of guest teachers, who were sitting on a dharna outside Delhi Secretariat for the past 15 days, demanding permanent jobs, today ended their protest after Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal gave them assurance that they would not loose their jobs after their contracts end in May.

The deadlock between the government and guest teachers ended after a delegation of teachers met Kejriwal and Education Minister Manish Sisodia and was apprised that government has formed a committee to frame new policies and guidelines for regularising all contractual posts in government departments.

Sisodia met the teachers and offered sweets to five guest teachers who had been sitting on hunger strike for the past three days.

Addressing the gathering of teachers, Sisodia appealed them to resume their work in schools from tomorrow. He said government was taking all necessary steps to regularise all contractual posts in the government.

Meanwhile, a majority of the DTC workers who were protesting at Millennium deport also ended their strike after Transport Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj met them and sought one month time to resolve the issue.

However, few workers are still continuing with the dharna there.
