NEW DELHI: The Opposition forced adjournments in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday and prevented the taking up of the goods and services tax bill, charging the government with working on the directions of corporates and moneybags.

This saw a verbal duel between Leader of the House Arun Jaitley and Opposition leaders. "Does the common man want that Parliament should not function? The one who has voted for you does not want Parliament to function? You should introspect that you are answerable to him about the running of Parliament." Deputy Chairperson PJ Kurien tried to take up the Constitution amendment bill for consideration and passage but was forced to adjourn the House for the day as Congress MPs trooped into the Well of the House and shouted slogans.
