At the rally, Bhartiya Gau Kranti Manch's leader Gopal Mani said he is going to demand a special status for the cow and a complete ban on its slaughter and beef trade.
It seems the issue of cow protection could be an issue in the forthcoming assembly and Lok Sabha polls in the country.

Soon after BJP leader Subramanian Swamy came with a cow protection bill in the Rajya Sabha, a group Bhartiya Gau Kranti Manch on Sunday demanded that cow be given the 'mother of the nation' status to stop its slaughter in the country.

"We are going to support only that party in the elections which helps us to get the mother of the nation status for cow," the Manch said.

The rally to demand the ‘mother of the nation’ status to cow was held at the Ram Leela grounds.

At the rally, its leader Gopal Mani said he is going to demand a special status for the cow and a complete ban on its slaughter and beef trade.

“Unless cow is treated as mother and not as an animal, its slaughter will not stop in the country. We demand that the government give us an assurance on this issue,” he said.

He said his organization has also met senior leaders of the government including Home Minister Rajnath Singh and raised several issues such as creating a separate ministry for cow protection, government purchase of cow dung and rehabilitation of old cows will be raised at the rally.

“The cow is invaluable and as per a research, cow dung of 17 crore cows can meet the annual need of cooking gas and transportation fuel in the country,” he claimed.

Gopal Mani said he has also demanded that the government should include cow milk as part of the mid-day meal across the country so that the children get proper nourishment and farmers get employment.

Mani said he has already submitted a memorandum with the Prime Minister’s Office and has sought time from the Prime Minister to raise the demands for cow protection in the country.

Soon after Swamy’s bill came up for discussion, there was a heated debate between him and the opposition members over the issue. However, on government’s request, the BJP leader agreed to withdraw the bill.
