Greenpeace India to appeal against licence suspension in court
NEW DELHI: Greenpeace India may appeal in court this week against the suspension of its licence by the Ministry of Home Affairs, which said as per law, the NGO should first approach the ministry. The organisation is seeking opinion on its legal options, Vinuta Gopal, climate and energy campaigner at Greenpeace India, told ET on Sunday.

The MHA suspended Greenpeace India’s registration under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act for 180 days and froze its bank accounts on April 9 for alleged violations of rules. The NGO said in a statement on Saturday that it will soon approach the courts. “We have been trying to engage with the MHA since June when the 'secret' IB reports were leaked to the media. We will continue to engage with them. However, we will also take stock of the legal options and will have made a decision on the same early next week,” Gopal told ET in an e-mail response.
