Grandfather kills 2 children, wife with an ax in Australia
A grandfather hacked his two grandchildren and his wife to death with an ax and badly wounded his daughter in an Australian town.
Police said they were searching for the alleged culprit in his late 70s who they believe fled the house in Cowra, 155 miles (250 kilometers) west of Sydney, in a car after Monday's attack.
Paramedics were called to the house and found three bodies, including the 5- and 7-year-old children, said New South Wales state Ambulance Service spokeswoman Fiona Kruit.
The children's mother, who was a police officer, was attacked as she returned to the house and fled to a neighbor's bleeding from a deep gash on the side of her head, Terry Lovitt, whose house the woman fled to, told Australian Broadcasting Corp. radio.
Lovitt said the elderly man and his wife often looked after the children when their mother went to work in a nearby town.
